Florence - Portrait of a City

This research undertaken in 2018 funded by RSA John Kinross Travel Scholarship focused on key fragments of significant public spaces in Florence and aims to reveal the formation of the city’s rich spatial sequences and fabric of the everyday life.

The study explores the idea of ‘layering’. The paintings and photographs focus on how momentary transient effects of light interact with monumental forms. The pieces are composed of elements that reveal characteristics of urban morphologies, spatial sequences and the key elements that sculpt the Tuscan architecture.

The pastel paintings highlight elements of the urban strata in order to capture the character of the vibrant Florentine life; studies of details and objects with particular architectural significance explore the exquisiteness of the urban realm and the diverse reality of the Florentine public space.
